Happy Birthday to Govinda the Hero Number 1 of Bollywood

History

Everyone knows him as Govinda, but a few only know his real name. Govinda was born on 21st December 1963, as Govind Arun Ahuja to parents Arun Kumar Ahuja, an actor and Nirmala Devi Ahuja, who has a singer and actress. He was born in Gujranwala and moved to Virar, Mumbai, in 1930. After completing his graduation in Bachelor of Commerce, his father was the one who encouraged him to pursue a career in movies.

Work Life

Govinda has appeared in more than 150 movies throughout his career in cinema. He debuted in a 1986 Hindi film that was a big hit, Ilzaam, where he starred alongside the big names Shashi Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha. His moves in the movie’s song “I am a street dancer” made him popularly known as the dancing star. His first film as the lead actor was Tan Badan, directed by his maternal uncle Anand Singh.
Govinda starred in dramas like Khudgarz, Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani, Hatya, and Jung Baaz. His first movie with the renowned director David Dhawan was Taaqatwar. He worked alongside Rajesh Khanna in Swarg and Hum with co-stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth. Govinda collaborated with David Dhawan again and delivered the highest-grossing film of 1993, Aankhen. And then this successful collaboration continued to serve the audience comedies like Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Hero No.1, Haseena Maan Jayegi, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and more.
From 2004 to 2005, Govinda took a break from Bollywood. He entered into politics and joined the Indian National Congress, where he defeated the five-time winner MP Ram Naik to win a seat in parliament from Mumbai North.
In 2006, Govinda returned to Bollywood with director Priyadarshan’s Bhagam Bhag with co-star Akshay Kumar. He worked with David Dhawan again in the 2007 film Partner alongside Salman Khan. This was a huge success, and Govinda won several awards for this film. He then appeared as an antagonist for Kill Dill, where critics applauded his performance. Govinda has also appeared as a judge on various TV shows, such as Dance Bangla Dance.
