Happy birthday to the superstar of Tollywood, Nagarjuna!


Akkineni Nagarjuna is one of the biggest stars of the Telugu film industry. He hails from a prestigious film family and is the son of the veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao.


Since his debut in 1986, Nagarjuna has worked in films of many genres and has gained huge fan following because of this acting skills and charming screen presence. Besides acting, he also owns a production house, Annapurna Studios. On this birthday, let’s know more about the actor and his journey into cinema.


History

Nagarjuna was born as Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao on 29th August, 1959 in Madras, now Chennai. He is the son of the former actor Nageswara Akkineni Rao. His family’s from Ramapuram in Andhra Pradesh. His father later moved to Madras to make an acting career in films.


Nagarjuna’s family then moved to Hyderabad where he is completed his school education from Hyderabad Public School and Little Flower Junior College. He then pursued mechanical engineering from College of Engineering from Anna University in Madras and then completed his BS in mechanical engineering from Eastern Michigan University, USA.


Acting Career

Nagarjuna first appeared as an infant in 1961 Telugu film Velugu Needalu and then as a child artist in the 1967 film Sudigundalu. His debut in the lead role was in the 1986 film Vikram with female lead Shobana which was a Telugu adaptation of the Hindi film Hero of 1983. The film was very successful amongst the audience and Nagarjuna had great start in the Telugu film industry.


Nagarjuna continued to give many successful hits like Majnu, Aakhari Poratam, Janaki Ramudu, and Geetanjali which won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film providing wholesome Entertainment. It was 1989, when he became the Telugu superstar by starring in the blockbuster hit, Siva. Nagarjuna also starred in this movie’s Hindi remake, debuting in Bollywood which was also a success.


The Telugu superstar continued to give his fans more hit films like Jaitra Yatra, Nirnayam, Killer, and Neti Siddhartha. He even made his debut in comedy genre with the film Hello Brother, which was remade with Salman Khan in the lead as Judwaa. Nagarjuna established himself as an action star by starring in many action flicks like Siva, Chaitanya, Nirnayam, Antham, Killer, Govinda Govinda, Azad, Mass, Gaganam, and the recent movie the Ghost.


Other works

Besides working in various movie genres, Nagarjuna has hosted many television shows. He hosted Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu from 2014-16, the Telugu adaptation of the game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? He has also hosted Big Boss Telugu which is an adaptation of the show Big Brother. Currently, he is hosting Big Boss Non-Stop.
